I just wanted to give a little shoutout to Apple TV, as I’m really enjoying not one, not two, but THREE high-production shows that probably aren’t getting as much attention as they deserve because they’re past the first season. Also, this doesn’t even include Shrinking, whose third season ended recently. The following are all actively releasing new episodes:
- Monarch: In this alternate version of Earth where Godzilla and other monsters actually exist, the show leans into some aspects of science fiction that I wasn’t expecting to see. I’m constantly amazed by how good the monsters look whenever they appear–every episode looks like a big-budget movie.
- For All Mankind: This is the fifth season, and life on Mars is thriving. I love how this show demonstrates what the future could be without idolizing it (i.e., let’s not give up on Earth). I’m impressed by how the cast has changed and aged over the years, yet the premise and the big time jumps still continue to work.
- Your Friends and Neighbors: Jon Hamm returns as a formerly rich guy who robs his very rich neighbors. The opulence in the show is over the top, and the increased focus on the characters has made this second season shine.
Are you watching any of these?
