Next month I’m attending Geekway to the West, a tabletop game convention here in St. Louis. For most of 4 days I’ll play published games with a variety of people, both for fun and to learn from the experiences as a designer.
I’ve been compiling a list of games I really want to try at Geekway, and as I usually do, I’m going to share it below in case you already love one of these games and want to teach and play it with me. I don’t schedule anything at Geekway–I’ve found it just doesn’t work in this convention format–but I should be easy to spot as I wander around in my bright orange Stonemaier t-shirt. I typically arrive each day around 11:30 after working in the morning.
Some of the games may be in their library, and there are probably some games in their play-and-win section that I’m unaware of. You’re also welcome to bring one of these games to Geekway if you own it, love it, and are happy to teach and play it with me.
I’ve already started talking about games I want to try, and I’m excited that specific people have already expressed interest in playing the following with me:
Tag Team- Tiger and Dragon
- Reforest
- Pacts
- Fliptoons
- Empires of the Void
- Kinfire Council
- Lunar Rush
- Village Green
- Dark Pact
Other new-to-me games I’d be happy to play: Call to Adventure Stormlight, The Finest Fish, Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Game, Infiltraitors, Lightspeed Arena, Puzzle Strike 2
Also, similar to last year, it would be fun to play some disc golf on Saturday or Sunday morning (weather pending) at the nearby McNair Park. Let me know if you’re interested in joining that excursion.
Would you recommend any of these games? Are there any of these games you’d also like to learn and play? I’m excited to play a bunch of them in a few weeks! Also, if you’re visiting St. Louis, here are my restaurant and activity recommendations in a variety of categories.
I really liked Kinfire Council. Solid Euro that tries not to be a Euro and works very well.
I’m very curious to try it!
Jamey, I own Fliptoons and have played it a few times, and given what I know of your tastes, you’re going to enjoy it! I have Tag Team in my shelf of opportunity, and I’m hoping to get that out this weekend!
Chris and Jamey: my same two recommendations as well! For me, Fliptoons is a great “appetizer game” for gamers and possibly a main event for a more casual group.
I did a demo of Tag Team at a convention. The four decks that were being used were probably the most vanilla of the bunch, but the potential of the system definitely shone through. Definitely worth a look!
I hope you enjoy Tag Team! I look forward to trying Fliptoons.
I’m going to tell Will to review your list to see if there are some he’s really interested in playing at Geekway!
Sounds good!
If you can track down Twisted Trumpets, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Its a game I designed that was published by Play to Z in November. Its a tile tableau builder where you’re building pipes in a crazy Dr Seuss-like horn. It features route building, set collection, spacial puzzles, public and private objectives, and fun combos you can trigger by timing your tile placement. I think you would really enjoy it!
That sounds fun! Thanks for the recommendation.
