I must admit that when I first heard about The Boroughs, a show produced by the Stranger Things directors–and looks almost exactly like Stranger Things, but in a retirement community–my first thought was, “Do we really need a new Stranger Things already?”
As it turns out, we do!
I loved The Boroughs. We swept through all 8 episodes over the weekend. And yes, while it does feel like Stranger Things in many ways, it isn’t actually Stranger Things. It’s set in the modern day, and it has quite a bit of the movie Cocoon too.
Also, aside from the supernatural elements, the impact of having nearly every leading actor as a septuagenarian can’t be understanded. They all have baggage, but they’re all trying to find joy in their last chapter. They are all much closer to death than to birth, but they all want to live. Their bodies may give them more constrains than when they were young, but they all also have a refreshing open-mindedness.
There are great twists and turns, some creepy elements (but not too scary), and a classic antagonist who comes across as perfective reasonable. Every episode left us wanting more, and while the show is completely self-contained, it leaves a slight door open in case enough people want more.
I want more.
So I highly recommend The Boroughs. Check it out and let me know what you think. Spoilers discussions are welcome in the comments.

It started slow (I fell asleep in during he second episode which is never a good sign) but it did pick up nicely after that. I’m very satisfied with this show.
