Moonwalkers and Avatar Aang: Two Spectacular Animated Movies

I recently watched two excellent animated films–one a few years old, the other brand new–and I wanted to recommend them to you.

Wolfwalkers is about a girl in ancient Ireland who follows wolves into the forest and discovers that they are more than just wolves. The animation style is beautifully Celtic in tone, with my favorite scenes showing us how wolves perceive and follow scents. The nature vs mankind theme reminds me a bit of Princess Mononoke, which is a good thing.

Avatar Aang the Last Airbender takes place a few years after the events of the Avatar TV show (which I thought was great, though I preferred the sequel, the Legend of Korra). Aang and his crew are now young adults, and they are racing to get to an ancient artifact before a terrorist group. This is mostly an action movie set in a stunning fantasy world, and the animators have truly outdone themselves.

Have you watched either of these or any other great animated films recently?
