Three years ago today, I said goodbye to my treasured cat companion, Biddy. I think about Biddy on any given day, but especially today and other special occasions.
Today also happened to be Labor Day in the US, and I realized something that brought me a lot of joy despite the heartbreak of Biddy being gone: Thanks to my job, I’ve worked at home from late 2013 to the present. That added up to nearly 10 years of extra time with Biddy; a rough calculation is over 20,000 extra hours of quality time I spent with him.
How amazing is that? The best part of it is that Biddy acted like a coworker for most of that time. Well, a very sleepy, hungry coworker. He would nap on my desk or on my chair behind me, he would take lunch breaks with me, and he would express his many opinions and questions to me throughout the day.
Biddy was there from the beginning of Stonemaier Games. I literally built prototypes around him, I opened game samples while he waited to crawl inside the box, and I photographed dozens of products with him in frame. He was curious about everything I worked on–he was the best.
As much as I wish Biddy were still here, I’m truly grateful for all that extra time we had together. I have 7 amazing human coworkers, and I love that Biddy was there with me every day from the very beginning. He was a very special cat.
Biddy is in all of our hearts. 🧡
Thank you. 🙂
I’m shocked that Jamey would pick a favorite!
