Two years ago I said goodbye to my beloved cat, Biddy. I now know that I won’t ever get over the loss or move past it–it’s just part of my life. As much as I wish Biddy were physically still with me, he truly continues to be in my heart and thoughts every day.
Today I thought I’d share a few of my favorite memories of Biddy to celebrate how much I cherish the 16+ years we had together.
First is how much Biddy loved boxes, even boxes he had no business sitting in (he was a big cat, averaging around 18 lbs for most of his life). Game boxes, corrugated boxes, suitcases, etc. He never ceased to amuse me by settling into a box when I wasn’t looking.

Biddy loved to eat. I had to teach him early on not to steal food off my plate, though I continued to give him little scraps. He didn’t just want the meat–for example, he loved eating avocado and would wait for Megan to let him lick the spoon when she was done. I had him mostly on a wet-food diet, but he would still gladly sneak Walter’s kibble.

Last, just the other night I had a dream about Biddy. Someone else was holding him and I said hi in the way we often did–he reached over to touch my chin and bumped it with his little mouth. I got him when he was so small that he associated me (specifically my chin) with something close to parental. It’s those little moments of affection and connection I miss the most.

I miss you every day, Biddy, and I’m so grateful for the years we spent together. If there’s a cat heaven, I hope they have unlimited food for you.
Tearing up reading this…
In December 2023 I had to say goodbye to my fluffy friend Jos, she was 18.
It still hurts a lot, I can’t think or speak about her without tears, and looking at pictures of her is still very tough.
If there’s a cat heaven, I hope Biddy & Jos enjoy their cardboard palace together.
I can’t express how much I relate to this and feel for you, Liesbeth. I’m glad you also had such a special cat in Jos, and I hope there’s a cat heaven for Biddy and her.
