We watched two excellent movies this weekend, but I can’t stop thinking about the second: Relay, starting Riz Ahmed and Lily James, is a truly masterful movie.
I’ll start by saying this: If you enjoy gripping thrillers with one reveal after the next, stop reading and watch Relay on Netflix now. I won’t spoil anything below, but I really think this film is best seen without any context.
If you want a little taste before giving Relay a chance, the short version is that Riz Ahmed plays a completely anonymous intermediary serving as an information escrow between conflicting parties. I’ll let you discover how he remains anonymous, as it’s a clever trick.
Lily James plays one of those parties, someone who has information she no longer wants. Both her and Ahmed are excellent in the film.
That’s really all I should say. I’ve had Relay on my watchlist for a while, but I shouldn’t have waited. I’m eager for others to discover it too.
