I don’t know if this is standard around the world, but in the US, nearly every professional team sport features a draft every season. The NBA and NFL in particular make a huge deal about the draft, with a huge spotlight on the coveted top picks. I’ve always taken for granted that this is just … Read more
Possibly for the first time since Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck starred in the same movie in Air, now on Amazon Prime. We watched it this weekend, and I really enjoyed it. Air tells the story of how Nike signed Michael Jordan to an endorsement deal before the 1984 NBA draft. It’s … Read more
Scoring a goal in a team sport at any level is an amazing achievement that’s worth celebrating. I’m saying this up front because I don’t want what follows to detract at all from the person who scores. It’s requires timing, speed, strength, and the ability to finish. As someone who played soccer for most of … Read more
I’m a huge, lifelong soccer player and fan, and I always look forward to the World Cup. This year has been a little odd with the tournament in November/December and the many issues surrounding Qatar as the host, but I still can’t help but be wrapped up in World Cup fervor. They’re still … Read more
While Megan was in isolation for COVID recently (she’s doing well now, and I tried to take good care of her), we separately watched two very different shows: She rewatched all of Downton Abbey, and I watched Winning Time. Winning Time is an HBO series that may look like a documentary at first glance due … Read more
Half of my daily workout is running up and down the stairs in my 3-story building. Our neighbors have never mentioned it; the stairs don’t overlap with their condos, so hopefully they can’t hear me. I try to relax when I run stairs. Relax my body, relax my mind. I want to get my heart … Read more
When I finally decided to “cut the cord” and just purchase streaming services instead of paying for cable earlier this year, my one concern was following along a few shows that are fun to watch as soon as they’re released, including Top Chef and American Ninja Warrior. Fortunately, the latter is now available on Peacock, … Read more
For a little over a year, I’ve been playing disc golf on a regular basis. It’s been a great reason to get out of the house into nature, stretch my legs and core, and challenge myself with an accessible sport that’s difficult to master, and spend time with friends. While the goal of playing disc … Read more
